Robbie to play Hong Kong gig
British superstar Robbie Williams is set to play one of the most expensive concerts ever held in Hong Kong, with tickets selling for up to 2,480 Hong Kong dollars (318 US dollars), according to media reports.

Pop star Williams, who first soared to the top of the British charts in
1995 with the ballad "Angels", will play his second-ever show in the city in November, promoters Midas was quoted by AFP as confirming.

A report in the South China Morning Post said the former Take That star
would be charging up to 2,480 dollars for VIP tickets, while the rest would be sold for between 500 and 1,000 dollars.

Hong Kong concert ticket prices are notoriously high; the most expensive
concert ever held here was by wrinkly rockers The Eagles who got a peaceful easy feeling out of charging punters 2,750 dollars per ticket when they played
in October 2004.

Midas said full details of the Williams show -- including date and venue -- would be released next week.

Just seems a shame that he's still not doing North American/Canada...

Tom Golseth said on his blog that Robbie will be playing Argentina, Chilie and possibly Brazil...now Hong Kong.. I wonder why the USA is out of the equation?

Come on!! Just come to Canada! It can't be a "world tour" if he is missing continents!

After getting my IS subscription, I found that in 1999 he had been to Kitchener (like 5 km from my very door step!!) AND I MISSED IT! I so upset, and I know I missed the last Toronto show (I started getting into him during that very promotion tour - I am a late Rob-bloomer!), but he hasn't been back since!

I will gladly open my doors up for my southern neighbors to stay if they are looking for a roof over their head... Anything, if it means he is coming to Canada!

I haven't wished on a star in a very long time, but I think I will tonight!

Robbie William's gig forces Lions to play Asian Cup clash at Jalan Besar
By Jose Raymond, TODAY

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/1madlady/php8jst3p.jpg

In what could be a major blow to Singapore?s 2007 Asian Cup dreams, the Lions will not play their final, and possibly crucial, Asian Cup qualifier against Palestine at the 60,000-seater National Stadium on Nov 15.

They will now play the match at the 6,000-seater Jalan Besar Stadium.

Why? Because the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) have asked the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) to give up their booking of the National Stadium, which they made in January, so that British superstar Robbie Williams can hold a concert at the venue on Nov 18.

In response to TODAY?S queries, the SSC?s chief of facilities Lim Eng Khoon said: "This was a difficult decision for SSC as we fully support sports and international mega entertainment events that create vibrancy at our facilities.

"After much deliberation, we made this decision based on optimising our pool of limited resources as well as finding the best solution that will benefit all Singaporeans - having both a football match and an international mega event.

"Singapore was not one of the stops on Robbie Williams? Asian tour, but we were able to secure a one night only performance after some negotiations with the organisers who had requested to use the National Stadium.

"The SSC have been in discussions with the FAS on this matter and it is truly unfortunate that both event dates fall within the same period and cannot be changed.

"Sports and international mega entertainment events will feature strongly in the calendar line-up for SSC?s facilities, especially in the new Sports Hub.
This will be a happy problem whereby we will be spoilt for choice to select which events will be held in the new facilities at the Sports Hub ? especially the new 55,000-seater stadium."

Williams? Singapore stop is the third after dates in Hong Kong and Thailand.

When contacted, Midas Promotions managing director Michael Hoskins, the promoters of the concert, said Williams? Singapore date was only confirmed on June 10. He added that the organisers needed about five days to prepare the stage for the mega-concert.

Football officials were naturally peeved when told of the developments.

Singapore?s technical director P N Sivaji said: "I am very disappointed with the decision, especially since the FAS had made a booking for the venue well in advance. It does not help the development of Singapore football. It also deprives the fans from coming out to cheer Singapore on especially in a tight group that could go all the way to the wire."

National coach Radojko Avramovic added: "If it goes right to the end, the boys should play in a fantastic atmosphere with as many fans behind them as possible."

The FAS tried to have the date of the fixture changed, but the Asian Football Confederation turned down the request.

Depending on the results of Singapore?s double bill against China in August and September and an away tie against Iraq on Oct 11, the match against Palestine could well be the Lions? decider.

They are currently in second spot in Group E behind China, but all four teams in the group have the same number of points (three after two games).

The top two teams in the group qualify for the 2007 Asian Cup final round.

Robbie Williams to perform in Singapore on 18 Nov 2006

Robbie Williams: Close Encounters
Saturday, 18 November 2006 8.00pm, National Stadium

Robbie Williams, music?s man with the Midas touch who shattered the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest, and largest, number of concert tickets ever sold in one day ? 1.6 million when the European leg of his World Tour went on sale in November 2005 ? is confirmed to tour Asia and will end the Asian leg of his World Tour, Robbie Williams: Close Encounters, here in Singapore.
Promoter, Michael Hosking, today (14 Jun 2006) announced that ?the world?s favourite entertainer and most dynamic showman ever seen?, would perform at the National Stadium on Saturday, 18th November.
The ?let me entertain you? stadium-pop giant will perform in Bangkok and Hong Kong for the first time in five years, and play dates in India and China for the first time ever.
Billed as the biggest musical event in Singapore this Millennium, Robbie Williams looks set to ignite the famous ?Kallang Roar? for possibly the last time at the Stadium, where plans are underway for demolition.
Hosking says of the concert coup of the year that ?the country is expected to join the ticket-selling phenomenon already experienced in every territory where Robbie Williams? concerts have gone on sale.?
He sold out five London shows, each with a capacity of 75,000. His Leeds? concert sold out in 90 minutes. Holland sold-out their four Amsterdam Arena gigs in a breath-taking 89 minutes. In Germany a mass of 20,000 fans braved the cold to line the streets of Munich waiting for tickets to go on sale at midnight. In Dubai last month, all 25,000 tickets were snapped up in less than 2 hours ? and Australia sold out 5 shows in a matter of hours!
To cope with demand, and in an unprecedented Singapore first, tickets will go on sale across three days only ? from 19th June through to midnight on 21st June.
?The last time Robbie staged a concert in Singapore in 2001, all 10,000 tickets were sold out in a few days. The show was fantastic and we anticipate a similar ticket sales trend, especially given the fact how spectacular this show is and how his fan base has increased ten-fold in the last five years?.
Record-breaking ticket sales are expected for what will be biggest stadium production show to ever visit Singapore.
?This is a rare occasion where Singapore gets the exact concert that has been seen in the traditionally bigger concert markets ,? says Hosking.
Fans who have kept the faith can expect an amazing show complete with six-storey high stage, 35 tonnes worth of pyrotechnics, lights and video walls, a roof specially brought in from Australia as well as assigning a crew of 400 for the whole production.
?Singapore is looking forward to an electrifying performance by this natural showman and iconic pop personality. The city has always been a must-stop destination for many of the world's best acts in the performing arts and music scene and we are excited to welcome Robbie Williams back, as well as his fans from the region,? says Oliver Chong, Director, Singapore Tourism Board.
The World Tour starts in Dublin on June 9 and visits 14 countries on 44 different dates and will finish in Australia. It is estimated his live audience will total 2.6 million.
Williams told Australia?s Herald Sun that he will not be touring for a long time after Close Encounters.
"For me this tour is a year-long celebration of what I've achieved as a solo artist. It comes in the form of getting on stage in stadiums. After that I'll say thank you very much. It's not something I want to do again for a long time."
Hosking concludes, ?I am very excited that Robbie, whose love for Singapore is well known, has agreed to play in our country.?
For a weekend escape with Robbie Williams, overseas visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets from SISTIC online system (www.sistic.com) and take full advantage of low budget carriers, reasonable hotel rates and shopping opportunities in Singapore.
There will be a combination of general admission (GA) tickets and allocated seats in the stands. No alcohol or bottles (including plastic) will be permitted in the GA areas. Pocket-size and mobile phone cameras will be permitted.
Concert information like maps, arrival and departure times, and public transport options will be broadcast and printed in local media closer to each concert date.
The 50-million-world-wide-album-seller topped the charts in 18 countries with his latest, Intensive Care launched in October 2005. This tour mixes Williams' classics such as Angels, Let Me Entertain You, Rock DJ, Feel and Kids with recent hits Tripping and Sin Sin Sin.
In a story of unparalleled success this Asian tour will ink another chapter in the story that is Robbie Williams.
Don?t miss your chance to be a part of pop history-in-the-making!
Issued on behalf of Midas Promotions

Robbie to play in Bangkok
Robbie Williams, who has declared himself the new King of Pop, is bringing his record-breaking 'Close Encounters' world tour to Bangkok. He will play a concert on Nov 14 at Aktiv Square, Impact Muang Thong Thani.

Organiser BEC-Tero believes it will be Thailand's biggest concert since Michael Jackson's 'Dangerous' tour in 1996.

Williams has performed in Thailand before, in 2001, when 15,000 tickets sold out quickly.

For the November date, the outdoor venue is expected to host around 30,000 revellers.

This tour has put Williams into the Guinness Book of World Records, as over 1.6 million tickets were sold in one day. The organisers said the show will incorporate a six-storey high stage, 25 tonnes of pyrotechnics, lights and video walls, and a roof specially brought in from Australia, along with 400 crew members to handle the production.

After the Bangkok show, Williams will perform in Singapore and finish off with four more shows in Australia.

Beginning his career as a heart-throb in the band Take That, Williams embarked on a successful solo career in 1997.

He is currently one of the highest grossing pop stars in the world.

Tickets priced at 3,000, 1,800, 1,200 and 600 baht will go on sale on Wednesday at all Thaiticketmaster kiosks and at www.thaiticketmaster.com

i think it's a financial thing, the tour set is so expensive to transport and erect with the full crew that I think they only play in places where thy know they can sell out a huge stadiumso it is worthwhile...to transport it all to canada or america and do just one or two gigs would be mental I guess...Im not saying it is right but just my thoughts

Laura

I think the set is a bit pointless, to be honest. Everyone just wants to see Rob - he could stand on a crate for all we care!

There was a thing on Tom Golseth's site about the tour and he said they play gigs according to the market, whether it is a market they already sell loads in (europe Oz etc) or a market they know they are going to be able to develop (South America, Asia etc) so I guess North America comes into a deffierent category, however harsh that may be. He's tried a couple of times with tours etc and maybe they just dont see the point with this particular tour. I'm not saying I agree whatever, just my thoughts again

TheMissus
07-18-2006, 02:50 PM
I think its really sad that it always has to be about money. OK, so he doesn't want to break America, but he does have plenty of fans there. After all, they decided to release Intensive Care in the States because of the download demand for it http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/konfus/a014.gif

Surely it wouldn't hurt to do a one off gig somewhere http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/c016.gif And as NTLA says, it doesn't have to be the big showbiz affair, just a small concert like the warm-up shows he did before Berlin last year.

nupica

He's been top seller in Spain since the beg. of his career, and he's not coming this year. Last tour he sold out the tickets for Barcelona's gig in 24 hours, so I think is not only a commercial issue; he probably doesn't like Spain...

Many other big stars like Bruce, U2, Rolling Stones... come here in every tour they do; Bruce is coming again to Barcelona for the third time this year. There is a big tradition of live concerts here, at least in Barcelona, and concerning the audience, I think that Spanish people may be considered as a hot and enthusiastic audience. Just see how passionate we are with the football.

I think he doesn't like Barcelona and Spain in general, is that simple. Concerning the US, he lives there and must like that country, so I don't understand why he's not performing there...

joanne
07-18-2006, 06:42 PM
I dont necessarily think he sits down and says where he will and will not play...I doubt he (like most artists) could be bothered to do that... that's what you pay tour promoters for!

Now that the buzz surrounding Air Supply's impending visit has died down, fans of pop music (of the non-Mando persuasion) have something else to be excited about: Robbie Williams. On November 4, the British star will bring his Close Encounters World Tour to Shanghai's Hongkou Soccer Stadium.

Perhaps one of the cockiest showmen alive today, Robbie Williams' career started in the British boy band, Take That, but really blew up after he ditched them in 1995 and had the spotlight all to himself. Mixing swaggering pop songs, stadium-sized ballads -- he even an album of old pop standards under his belt -- Robbie's popularity does not seem to be letting up, whether you enjoy his lovable off-stage buffoonery or not. Six albums into his career, he's embarking on a five month world tour in support of his 2005 release, Intensive Care, with stops in Cape Town, Dubai, Mexico City and Buenos Aires. It's his longest consecutive tour to date, which he apparently thinks is "scary". After Shanghai, Williams will make stops in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore before winding things down in Australia.

Robbie to play China
http://www.purerobbie.com/photoplog/images/1108/medium/1_Rob3.jpg
Music Week
04 September 2006

Robbie Williams is to join the growing tide of Western acts who have performed in China, with plans to play a live show there this autumn.

The EMI artist will follow in the footsteps of artists including The Rolling Stones and Westlife by undertaking a promotional visit in November, to include a performance at the 35,000-capacity Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai.

It will be one of several dates this year in which Williams – whose new album Rudebox is released on October 23 – will be playing concerts for the first time. His non-European tour itinerary also includes first live performances in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and India.

Full details of the Chinese date are expected to be unveiled shortly, but Capitol Music UK senior international project manager Carole MacDonald says, to pave the way for the concert itself, EMI invited media from China over to see him perform during his continental European tour this summer.

“China is a country with massive potential and there are a lot of artists starting to play there,” she says. “The Western cultural influences are increasing all the time.”

Although Western acts playing China is still headline news, two decades on from Wham! becoming the first Western artists to play there, the country is increasingly figuring on promotional and tour agendas.

Three years after original concert plans were scrapped because of the Sars epidemic, EMI’s The Rolling Stones made their Chinese concert debut in April at Shanghai’s Grand Stage, while Sony BMG’s Westlife played at the same venue in July as part of the promotion for their Face To Face album.

Live dates in Mumbai and Bangalore in India in November are also expected to be announced shortly for Williams, while concerts for the same month are already confirmed for Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore.

Before those dates, Williams will make his South American concert debut in October, having already visited key markets on the continent over the past two years.

His schedule includes two dates at the 62,000-capacity River Plate football stadium in Buenos Aires in Argentina - breaking U2’s previous record of achieving the fastest ticket sales at the venue for an international act.

Robbie Williams tickets go on sale Sept. 14

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/1madlady/RobbieWilliamsShanghaiSeatC.jpg

We admittedly don't know much about Robbie Williams' music -- we lived a sheltered existence in the United States from 1973 to 2002 -- but we do know the guy is huge (as in a huge megastar ... not in any other way ... as far as we know). We also know he is coming to Shanghai on November 4 -- and that show also will be huge. Some 26,000 people are expected to pack Hongkou Stadium. That's not too shabby. Earlier this year, we called the Black Eyed Peas playing Shanghai a "historic moment" because they were the first major contemporary foreign act at the height of their celebrity to stage a show in the city. Scratch that. This is the historic moment.
Williams is bringing to Shanghai the same stage show he would anywhere else in the world. The stage itself is coming from the UK and includes 500 square meters of performance space. It's also got a roof that will support 40 tons of equipment. And they are bringing in lights and speakers from Beijing and Guangzhou ... because Shanghai doesn't have enough.

Because you can only watch the same three episodes from the second-to-last season of Friends so many times, we ended up watching a Robbie Williams concert video at the gym not too long ago. Whether you like the guy's music or not, there's no doubting his ability to entertain. He's a natural. And if we had 60 to 200 dollars to blow on a ticket, we'd think about going on November 4.

While we are mulling that over, we'll stick to YouTube. There are plenty of videos of recent shows -- like September 9 in Leeds. You'll also find two clips that show Williams is one of the best guests MTV Cribs will ever have. And finally, our favorite Robbie Williams music video -- the one where he tears off his own flesh.

Robbie Williams, Close Encounters Tour, Nov. 4, 2006, 8 pm, Hongkou Stadium. Tickets RMB 180-1,580. Tel: 6289 3919. Email: tickets@cwest.cn. Website. Tickets go on sale Sept. 14.

Oh dear WK_PRC I found this as well

Is Robbie Wiliams' Shanghai gig canceled?

Robbie Williams has hinted that he wants to quit singing -- but could that happen before his scheduled gig in Shanghai? Some local magazines have been given a heads up that the show might be off. And the show's local promoter has taken mention of the show off its website.

We are awaiting official word -- we will let you know what we know when we know it.

ROBBIE Williams has called off the entire Asian leg of his world tour because of stress and exhaustion.

The singer has been been gigging since May and is said to be extremely tired.

His spokesman said: "These performances would be asking too much. They would have greatly added to his workload.

"The gigs are in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Mumbai and Bangalore in November.

Many fans will be particularly disappointed as tickets had already gone on sale for some of the shows.

Robbie is currently in the middle of five dates at the Milton Keynes Bowl, the last concerts in the UK leg of the tour.

He will then play five gigs in South America in October before ending in Australia in December.

Robbie Cancels Asian tour dates

Pop Star Robbie Williams has called off the Asian leg of his world tour, citing stress and exhaustion

The former Take That singer was to have visited Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Mumbai (Bombay) and Bangalore between 4 and 26 November.

Tickets had gone on sale for the Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore dates.

A spokesman said that to perform in China, India and south east Asia after honouring European and South American commitments "would be asking too much".

Williams performs the second of five dates at the Milton Keynes Bowl on Friday, the last concerts in the UK leg of the tour.

'New territories'

The concerts were originally scheduled to take place in the new Wembley Stadium but were relocated due to delays in its rebuilding.

He will then play five dates in South America in October before ending his tour in Australia in December.

The singer's spokesman said that Williams had been touring since May and was already "extremely tired."

To perform in the "entirely new territories" of India and China, he said, "would have greatly added to his workload".

Robbie cancels shows

By Peter Holmes
September 17, 2006

BRITISH pop superstar Robbie Williams yesterday cancelled part of his international tour, sparking concerns about the future of his Australian shows.

Blaming "stress and exhaustion", the performer announced that a raft of Asian concerts - which precede his Australian shows - would not go ahead.

But Australian promoter Michael Chugg was quick to promise the 450,000 people holding tickets for Williams' local concerts that the singer would not pull the plug on his Australian tour.

"They haven't said a word about cancelling Australia," Mr Chugg said yesterday.

"I spoke to Robbie's management last night, and the night before that, and we're full steam ahead."

Williams, 32, was due to perform in China, Thailand, Singapore and India from November 4-24, before flying to Australia. His local tour is due to start on November 30 at Perth's Subiaco Oval, ahead of shows at Sydney's Aussie Stadium on December 9 and 10.

A spokesman for Williams told the BBC that it "would be asking too much" for the singer to perform in Asia.

According to the Shanghai Daily, Williams' Asian promoters were told that "the stress and exhaustion of the Asian tour, coming so shortly after the end of the European and South American dates, would seriously impact his health".

Williams has performed to more than three million people across 40 concerts on his current Close Encounters tour.

Mr Chugg said he spoke to Williams last month.

"He was very excited about coming back to Australia. I don't know why he's cancelled Asia - perhaps it's a financial thing," he said.

It is expected more tickets for Williams' Australian shows will go on sale on October 4.

I am disappointed for all those fans who must feel gutted about Robbie cancelling part of his tour but his health must come first and hopefully Robbie will visit again at some point. I must admit this is the first tour Ive ever followed closely and was suprised by how many dates he was doing and how little space inbetween the dates for him to rest. Robbie said himself on Friday night that he maybe had asked too much of himself and I think I agree with him.

Some people dont know hard work when it bites them on the bottom. Its hardly been a long tour, come on have a reality check. It was hardly a hectic asian tour planned for him as well.

I bet he's smoked more fags than he has sang songs or played more football matches. He's falling to bits and surprise surprise his band is carrying him (i wonder why they are not exhausted?!). Just singing less gigs wont necessarily sort him out.

4/10 Mr Williams. Must show more application.

British singer Robbie Williams has cancelled his 18th November concert in Singapore, citing health concerns.

A statement to promoters said it had become clear "that the stress and exhaustion of the Asian tour, coming so shortly after the end of the European and South American dates, would seriously impact his health".

Midas Promotions Managing Director, Michael Hosking, said: "We were in London last week to discuss this matter but our bid to reinstate the date was unsuccessful."

Refunds of tickets will be available from September 27.
