About Croke Park
Home to the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), Croke Park has been at the heart of Irish sporting life for over a hundred years.
Steeped in history, this landmark arena is the largest stadium venue in Ireland. Following its recent redevelopment, Croke Park now has capacity for 82,300 people and is the fourth largest stadium in Europe. 1.6 million people visited Croke Park in 2005 and this is expected to increase to over 2 million in 2006.
In addition to the cream of gaelic sports players, the best of Australia's AFL talent have played here. Muhammad Ali fought here. U2 and Tina Turner performed here. Croke Park also played host to the spectacular opening and closing ceremonies of the Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2003, the first time these events were held outside the United States. Billboard Magazine recently voted Croke Park as the worlds top rock venue.
The stadium is an inspirational venue not only for GAA supporters and players, but for sports fans from Ireland and abroad, for event planners and conference delegates, for historians, architects and engineers. It is a theatre of dreams and a modern piece of history right in the heart of Dublin and in the hearts of all Ireland.
Yes I am and at the moment, my only one :( Because it was everywhere over here that he was going to be doing two but maybe three. So I thought I'd get them first. But no, no sign of a second night, and it sold out really quickly and he def has the next two nights down in the Croke Park booked so to speak. Ah well can't win them all. I will keep you informed of the night and hope the Wembley ones are moved somewhere bigger so I can get tickets!!!

Got my tickets in the post today. Because I got them on the inner sanctum I had a bit of blind buying, no idea where i was paying my ?170 for (yes I have to drag my boyfriend along). I'm delighted cause they are right beside the stage, and about 15 rows back, which as there will be standing on the pitch I think is perfect. Well chuffed! I'll post any photos up straight afterwards.

HE needed a team to conquer the Rest of the World for Soccer Aid. But Robbie Williams will be doing it 'Sin-gle' handed in Ireland this week.
The prankster prince of pop, who is back on top of his game with the release of new single Sin, Sin, Sin, kicks off the European leg of his world tour in Dublin's Croke Park on Friday.
The tour - his biggest yet - sees Williams playing 23 shows to more than 1.6m fans in 13 countries.
And it seems that Ireland just can't get enough of the eccentric Englishman, who sold out Slane in 1999, packed in 80,000 punters at two Lansdowne Road shows in 2001 and played a storming set to a massive 135,000 fans at Phoenix Park in August 2003.
With sold-out signs swinging all across Europe this summer, Robbie's fans are obviously eager to hear songs from his current album, Intensive Care in the live arena.
Upon its release last October, the album debuted at No 1 in 18 countries - selling an extraordinary 373,000 copies in its first week in the UK.
It's gone on to become the fourth fastest selling British album ever, and at one stage nine copies a second were winging their way across counters.
Intensive Care marked Williams's first full-length outing with new musical partner, Stephen 'Tin Tin' Duffy.
And since the release of Intensive Care, Williams and Duffy are rumoured to have been beavering away together in the studio, completing a new dance-orientated album which may be on the shelves by late summer.
Another musical collaboration was also successfully completed in May, when Williams joined his boyhood heroes Pet Shop Boys for their Radio 2 live extravaganza, Sold On Song - and another reported recording collaboration.
But a schedule of all work and no play would never wash with the fast-living 32-year-old.
Soccer Aid - the brainchild of Williams and Jonathan Wilkes - gave the footy-loving superstar the opportunity to fulfil his boyhood dream by captaining England to victory at Old Trafford.
The fundraising event was a massive success, with millions raised for children's charity, Unicef.
And as if his workload for 2006 wasn't already punishing enough, Williams may have a little window in his diary reserved for a reunion with former band mates Take That.
In a TV interview with Jonathan Ross last month, a tongue-in-cheek Williams declared that he would join-up with his former boyband mates if he lost a challenge tennis match with the chat-show host.
The Manchester supergroup, who dominated the charts in the early 90s, and with whom Williams cut his pop star teeth, reformed earlier this year for a series of reunion gigs.
Featuring four-fifths of the original line-up, the group's comeback has been a massive commercial success - only being beaten for the title of the UK's biggest concert draw of 2006, ironically, by Robbie's forthcoming tour.
So, let him entertain youa as the suave songsmith serves up the soundtrack of his supernova solo stardom - Rock DJ, Millennium, Feel, Let Me Entertain You and, inevitably, the anthemic Angels.
? Robbie Williams plays his sold-out show at Dublin's Croke Park on Friday.

Croke Park concerts to finish later
An Bord Pleanála has granted Croke Park permission to conclude two concerts at 11pm rather than 10pm at night.
This means the Bon Jovi concert tomorrow will be able to play until 11pm.
Dublin City Council had originally granted permission for the concert to continue until the later time, but this was appealed to the board by local residents.
The Robbie Williams concert, which is due to take place later this summer, will also continue until 11pm.
However, a third gig relating to Billy Joel was not granted permission on the basis that an application had not been submitted.

3 Day Outlook:
Thursday and Friday will continue very warm with good spells of sunshine in all areas, though cloudiness may make the sunshine hazy at times too - especially on Friday. Winds will be light and variable generally, with moderate sea breezes developing near the sea shores. Daytimes maxima may exceed the mid twenties inland, with fresher conditions expected by the coast. The nights will be very mild and mostly calm too, with the chance of mistiness and local fog patches. The warm weather will continue on Saturday also, albeit with increased humidity and more cloud around; at that stage a risk of heavy or thundery showers breaking out.

shell 06-07-2006, 09:11 PM Residents' anger over Robbie Williams tickets give-away
Disgruntled residents from Dublin?s Croke Park region today hit out at the way the free tickets for Robbie William?s concert were handed out to the community.
Ahead of the pop star?s Friday night gig, residents called for a better system to be put in place after hundreds of people spent hours queueing in a bid to avail of the tickets set aside for locals.
Marian Bradley, who is from Clonliffe Road and a member of a residents? committee, claimed: ?There is an unruly system in place people are going up and walking away with eight tickets when it should be just two per household.
?There is panic now.?
But Peter McKenna, Croke Park Stadium director, said no person received any more than two tickets with each person having to present a household bill and identification.
??140,000 worth of tickets were given to the local community which is unheard of in any other stadium in Ireland or Europe,? he said. ?What we would prefer to do is make a local donation into the community because no matter how many tickets we give out someone will be left disappointed.?
Ms Bradley said the residents should be treated better due to the hardship they encounter due to concerts and football matches being held at Croke Park.
?We have all the dirt and filth after the concerts, bottles thrown into gardens and people urinating in gardens,? Ms Bradley, who was looking for Robbie Williams concert tickets for herself and her son, said.
?We can?t even take out cars out on match day. And elderly people are prisoners in their own homes.?
The Croke Park Stadium gave out 1,600 tickets worth ?140,000 in two lots - with 800 distributed from the ticket box at the stadium in the early morning, and the remainder in the afternoon.
?The ticket booth opened and distributed all 800 tickets, other people wanted to wait. If people wanted to queue that is their right to queue,? Mr McKenna said, adding wristbands were given out so people could return home and come back.
Ms Bradley said many of the hundreds of people queueing would be in favour of the tickets being raffled like for last summer?s U2 concerts.
?The raffle had its own idiosyncrasies too, a lot of the applications got, despite of all the checks and balances, tend to be bogus so we thought it would be better if people came face to face. No matter how many tickets we give out they are not going to satisfy everyone,? the stadium director said.

Robbie fans not entertained by tetchy ticket free-for-all
Thursday June 8th 2006
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/1madlady/377907.jpg
Supt John Leahy compares a counterfeit ticket (on right) with a real ticket.
Hundreds left disappointed as tempers flare in the heat
TEMPERS flared as temperatures soared outside Croke Park yesterday, when disgruntled Robbie Williams fans found themselves ticketless and desperate.
They took up positions and queued from early morning, seduced by the tantalising prospect of two free tickets for Friday's sold-out gig. But as the thermometer climbed and hopes of a ticket receded, rankled fans threatened an all-out revolt.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/1madlady/377908.jpg
Residents from the Croke Park area queueing for tickets for the Robbie Williams concert yesterday. KEN O'HALLORAN
In an effort to sugarcoat the prospect of the star belting out pop hits over their garden walls on Friday night, the GAA had allocated 1,600 free tickets to locals. These were to be doled out on a first-come first-served basis in two sessions at 10am and at 7pm.
But by lunchtime yesterday all was not going to plan. At its height, a queue of more than 1,000 snaked along the stadium perimeter sweltering under an unrelenting sun.
Some residents had claimed their spot at the top of the line from before 6am only to find their neighbours skipping the queue.
Local residents told how some fans were seen returning to the queue four or five times, amassing 10 tickets despite a strict two-per-household rule. And when some wannabe concertgoers reached the top of the queue, some found themselves the victims of matriarchal households. Their bills were in the names of their elderly mothers - usually not a Robbie fan - and were ordered to return later with proof of address in their own names.
"My mother is 79 and is on an oxygen machine. They told me she'd have to come herself - but that would kill her altogether," complained Pauline Braymer from Portland Place.
Responding to criticisms of a lack of security personnel staffing the queue, Peter McKenna stadium director said there was an "irony to all of it. We're giving out free tickets. No other venue in the world does this.
Now they're saying as a community they can't respect each other's rights to queue properly."
He said the GAA would prefer to see the money spent in a different way, such as providing scholarships or school renovations, so as to ensure a greater community gain.
"There is always a group that feels they are left out. It's not an ideal way to do it but it's what the local community wants . . . There are a lot of old people around who are not into Robbie Williams, and young children, who cannot go to concerts - these are the people who will be discommoded but they do not benefit from free tickets," he added.
A fanatical soccer fan, Robbie flew into Dublin earlier this week and has already insisted that his dressing room in Croke Park be supplied with live television coverage of the World Cup so he can watch the first half of the match between Poland and Ecuador tomorrow.

he has a point - if there were only a limited number of tickets, obviously alot of people were going to miss out. But you can't really complain about a freebie, can you
shell 06-08-2006, 06:56 PM I agree. There's lots of big stadiums right in the center of residential areas that do not consider the residents. Croke Park has always done this and kudos to them for doing so.

It's only rock 'n' roll but 265,000 like it . . .
Friday June 9th 2006
IT'S only rock 'n' roll but for Dublin this weekend the biggest influx of music rock fans ever seen in the capital will bring a multi-million bonanza to city businesses.
All three major outdoor venues, the RDS, Croke Park and the Lansdowne Road will be in use as a total of 265,000 rock fans flock to the capital to see concerts by Robbie Williams, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Korn, Emmylou Harris and Mark Knopfler and the Eagles.
Hotels have been booked out for weeks as fans from all over Ireland and abroad get ready for what will be the biggest weekend of rock music not just in Dublin, but in Europe this summer.
And the capital's pubs are looking forward to what Licensed Vintners' Association (LVA) Chief Executive, Donall O'Keeffe, described as "a phenomenal weekend".
He said the combination of the big rock gigs, the start of the World Cup and the current hot spell were all contributing to "huge expectations" within the industry.
Dublin Chamber of Commerce said while it appreciated it was simply a coincidence so many major concerts were taking place this weekend, the city should consider staging an annual June rock or arts event.
"We feel there is a gap in Dublin and we'd like to see something held during the summer months," said the Chamber's Director of Policy and Communications Aebhric McGibney.
But while pubs, hotels and shops welcomed the weekend influx of fans, it is bad news for the capital's restaurant business.
"Business could be down anything up to 50pc," said Henry O'Neill, Chief Executive of the Restaurant Association of Ireland.
"The concerts are going on at a time when people would usually be going to restaurants," he noted.
Restaurants
And a lot of people simply did not go to restaurants when World Cup matches were on.
But the LVA said this weekend would be one of the busiest of the year for the 750 pubs which made up its membership, and on a par with the St Patrick's weekend, Christmas or Cheltenham.
"You have venues on both sides of the city being used so pubs both north and south city will benefit," he added.
Meanwhile, Robbie Williams, a fanatical football fan, flew into Dublin earlier this week and insisted his dressing room at Croke Park be supplied with live television coverage of the World Cup so he can watch the first half of the Poland-Ecuador match before taking the stage at 8.45pm tonight in front of 80,000 fans.

Pop star Robbie Williams promised Irish fans a free concert after kicking off the summer leg of his world tour in Dublin with what he said was a disappointing performance on Friday.
The 32-year-old, who said he wished he'd opened his sell-out "Close Encounter" tour in a village hall rather than in front of 90,000 screaming fans, made the promise after a stunt at the end of the show failed to come off.
Williams was meant to descend on a gondola from a rig above the stage during his song "Let Me Entertain You" but the device didn't work and Williams was forced to rush back down to the stage.
http://i.today.reuters.co.uk/misc/genImage.aspx?uri=2006-06-10T001828Z_01_L09662366_RTRUKOP_2_PICTURE0.jpg&resize=w160 (javascript:commonPopup('/news/newsPhotoPresentation.aspx?type=topNews&imageID=2006-06-10T001828Z_01_L09662366_RTRUKOP_0_PICTURE0.xml', 560, 535, 1))
After the song, Williams admitted what had happened and said he didn't feel he had performed as well as he could. His pledge to host a free gig was greeted with huge applause and cheers from an already animated audience packed into Dublin's Croke Park stadium.
"I'll be back before the end of the year," he said.

Robbie Williams has promised fans in Ireland a free show after a stunt at the first concert on the European leg of his world tour went wrong.
"I'll be back before the end of the year," Williams told the sell-out crowd at Dublin's Croke Park Stadium.
Williams was left suspended above the stage in a gondola-like construction when it failed to descend to the stage. He finally made his own way back down to wind up the gig, one of 14 European dates on his Close Encounters tour.
For the majority of the concert Williams delighted screaming fans with a string of his hits including Radio, Let Me Entertain You and Angels.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41749000/jpg/_41749274_robbie200.jpg The star has not toured for three years
Fireworks heralded the start of the show and raised most of the crowd to their feet, where they stayed until the end.
A duet with his friend Jonathan Wilkes, Me And My Shadow, was a surprise addition to the performance before Williams sang the Take That hit, Back For Good, followed by his own No Regrets.
Robbie Williams is playing to an estimated 2.6 million fans around the world on his tour, which began in South Africa last month and will end in Australia in December.
His planned September gigs at the new Wembley Stadium were moved to the Milton Keynes Bowl after the venue was beset by building delays. The BBC News website was unable to reach a spokesperson for the singer to comment on his free concert pledge.
