Hmmm, I've just heard Rudebox for the first time. It's not really my sort of thing (I like to be along to sing along Karaoke style a'la Strong!) but I will support Robbie all the way!! x

Well, I have to admit Rudebox is growing on me.. I SO hope that is Rob is the granny suit - we all know he has a penchant for dressing up! Oh, I'll just cry with laughter!!

It seems that I am a bit of a tool and can't quite figure out where any of the downloads are, save for the videos at Rudebox74.com. Can some one point me in the right direction? Seems I need some hand holding today:D

That's what I figured - Can't find it on the BBC site... By chance no one knows where I, the slow one, could find them now...?

(Sodding Vacation... I am likely going to have to wait until the blasted album is released at this point!)

I've only heard part of the song and it's not really my kind of music. However, I reckon it will grow on me the way "Radio" did. I still would prefer to hear Robbie singing the usual kind of music he does. He has such a lovely voice and I reckon it will go to waste on techno dance tracks.

If all you are hearing is this dub version, then you are missing most of the song! I loved it from the moment I heard it on Radio 1 last week.

Yeah, I was pretty unsure at first, but now I'm the same! I hope I've only been singin it to myself at work, and not out loud. No-one has asked me what the hell I'm sayin "Rudebox" for, anyway!

hi i just want to ask a little question. Is Rudebox the right style for Robbie? I'm unsure so i thought i would ask you lot
:) Thanks x :)

Vicky D
07-28-2006, 05:24 PM
Very good question and good for you for asking it as I think that it will bring on a lot of debate......

I do not think that there is always a right or wrong style for an artist to adopt, and I think it is healthy for artists to adopt a different genre now and again to avoid them becoming sterotyped I suppose.

It a bit like it is healthy for a successful actor to take on different roles to avoid them always being seen as the good guy or bad guy.

I think it is great and brave for Rob to do what he has done aside from whether it is 'liked' or not. A bit like when he did his Swing material, it was a change from what he was familiar with.

There will be some people who will LOVE his new style who have never purchased a RW Album in their lives before....

There will be some existing fans who will think what on earth is this rubbish......

There will some fans who love his old stuff but will be willing to support his new style and be open to be influenced by it ......(This is where I sit by the way)

What I guess the real question is ...Do we want it to be the right style?

Part of me thinks I love his material to date so much that I don't want him to change his style to the extent that he stops producing the old stuff. Is this what you are thinking as well?

Are we concerned that the old Rob has moved on and become a new Rob which we are a bit unsure about? I think this is too black and white.

My view is that Robs job is to sell records. He has a massive fan base who have been buying his records of his material to date. He would have to reestablish a new massive fan base, or take a lot of existing fans with him to his new style to continue selling the same amount of records.

Lets not worry. Lets enjoy the variety as it is supposed to be the spice of life!

Rob knows what his fans like and I am sure that he will continue to deliver that for us.

I think it’s good for Rob, one way or the other. If the whole music listening world turns against him for doing something he wants to do and he believes in, it’s a pity. But by then he learned something out of it, and that’s a good thing also. I don’t think this will happen. He will lose some and gain some. And when his next album is safe and recognizable he’ll gain the fans again he had lost with Rudebox..
And when even nobody is going to buy this new album, nothing is lost. He did something he wanted to do, enough. The only thing happened is he grew older and wiser.
Honestly, I can’t understand what’s all the fuss about. He released 1 new song of a new album. Wait till the whole album is released or leaked, listen to it and see if you like it. Trippin’ was the first released song from IC, the rest of the album is slightly different. You’ll see: it’s a good thing for Rob, lots of publicity to begin with. And it doesn’t matter people are talking in a good or bad way about him. People are talking about him.

Vicky D
07-28-2006, 06:18 PM
Wait till the whole album is released or leaked, listen to it and see if you like it.

I couldn't agree more.

We can't really make a judgement on his new style until we have heard the rest of the new album which could be fantastic!

He believes in it, and I trust his judgement, so thats enough for me for now.

i really admire Rob for experimenting with his music. i agree it might not be to everyones taste ( i love it ) but atleast it shows growth, maturity and most importantly confidence in his own ability as an artist.

when you think about it most long standing bands/artists have tried different styles to their norm, ( e.g Elton john,U2, Bowie to name a few ) which have not all been favourably received either, but they are still around and their music is still being enjoyed by many.

i just think (hope ) this transition in Rob shows that he intends to be around for a very long time to come and i welcome it with open arms.

tasha
07-28-2006, 06:37 PM
Think we should wait for the album and judge from there. I personally think Rudebox could be one of those "one off" songs like Tripping and Radio which have done really well. I am glad that he is experimenting and trying different styles. I just wish the press would leave him alone and wait for the whole album to be reviewed before slating him!

Andrea78
07-28-2006, 06:37 PM
Fair play to Rob for doing what he wants to do and if he enjoys making music in this style, then it is the right style for him, I guess.

Great topic - sent you some rep ;)

Totally agree with Vicky D when she wrote "do we want it to be his style?"

When i saw him perform it in Milan he looked to be enjoying it & he performed it as 'Robbie' would - really reminded me of seeing RockDJ live... i wasnt expecting him to perform it as he did for some reason, i thought new music style, new performing style - if you get me.

I think his new dance music will draw a younger membership base also.

Is Rudebox right for Rob? If he is happy... so be it..its about time he took some pleasure out of all this and did things he wanted to do.

Hi!
I agree with your points of view! I think we have good reasons to believe it will be a great album just like everything he did before :)
And whatever will come, it won't erase the successes from the past.

I was worried when i heard tripping for the 1st time last year (what a difference!!) and i admit it isn't one of my faves, however i love intensive care tooooooo much!
Let's wait.

I looooooooove RUDEBOX! It's awesome, and it's what Robbie listens to himself... to me it's like eletro-rap mix... and it'll be great. Remember the "Radio" mixed opinions, then came "Tripping"... this whole album will be great too because it's Robbie's music, and we love him!!! ;)

It's a nice change. I didn't really like Sin Sin Sin that much and didn't think it was the best choice for a single-this is far more intresting even if it's abit cringey in places.

I don't hate it, but i don't really want the whole album to be like it either. I'm hoping for a mix of different style tracks. Like a Robbie selection box.

I guess that Rudebox never will be a song that really means that much to me, much because of the (lack of) lyrics. ;) But it grows every tim I hear it, and it surely is a nice piece to listen to.
I would not want the whole album to contain this sort of lyrics, but it's great with some change and especially the fact that he enjoys what he's doing. :)

Does anyone know? Is it already on itunes uk for example ? Or will it be ready for download with the official release date (September 4th.) and not before ?
As far as I know the download charts have also got an impact on the official singles chart, so I think we should get downloading as soon as possible to support Rudebox. If I knew where and when that is ...

According to some very clever people from other forums it would help Rudebox chartwise if people downloaded it THIS week.
It's a bit complicated but apparently when you get into the UK charts with the help of downloads one week before the official single release, the track has got a better chance of getting a high charts spot the next week. For example Beyonce's Deja Vu got to no. 20 thanks to downloads the week before the actual release and then went to no. 1 in the following week.
So, if anybody wants to support Rudebox in the UK charts download it this week already !

Its the same in Ireland :D We always get singles and albums released on the Friday before, rather than the Monday like in England. Something to do with when the charts are done over here.

Is it being released in the shop as a DVD like the other Rob tracks?

Anyone know?
