I have my firefox options set to "open new tab" for any link I click, yet whenever I open a new private message (or the more smilies) it opens in a new window instead. I have hunted high and low on the web to find a solution, but no luck.

I know lots of people here use firefox, and wondered if it does the same for you. If it doesn't, what have you clicked in your settings to make it open in a new tab :shaz:

Where have you exactly set that option?
I ask, because I have gone to "Extras", then to "Settings" and then to "Tabs". Then it has the option "open in tab instead of new window".
Since this one sounds slightly different to the setting you obviously have done, this might be already your help?

I don't have an extra's option (or if I have, I have no idea where it is). I have gone into "tools" at the top of the page and selected "options" at the bottom of the list. There is a section for tabs there and I have ticked the box saying new pages should be opened in a new tab. But it doesn't seem to work for the new pm message and the more smilies on pure robbie. Its driving me nuts :jackie:

It's at the very top of the site (at least here, maybe it depends on the version of firefox that you use) and since I have it all in German, it gets a bit difficult to describe.
It's there, where you have at the very top-left "file" and more to the right "help" or the "?". In my firefox the "extras" is left of "help".
But I think according to what you describe, it's a "normal" pop up - which you either block for all sites or allow for certain or even all sites.
If you block pop ups, it might always ask you anew to allow it.
And if you allowed it for e.g. PR, then it might ask you, of you want something to be opened in a new window or not - then it would change the actual site into the new one.
Anyway, I have set the option to open tabs instead of new window, but for smilies it will always open me a pop up, as it's not a separate website, but as said a "pop up". I guess that counts for pm-windows as well.
Gee, is it difficult to describe that in english.

I think I wasn't a good help :saddo:

I understood :)

I think your extra's is my options - they are in the same place

I just found this on the mozilla help pages which might explain why its ignoring my option setting -

Note: If you have chosen to open pages in new tabs, Firefox will ignore this optionpreference and will open a new window from a link if the page author specified that the new window should have a specific size, because some pages can only be displayed correctly at a specific size.

not sure why pm's and smilies should have to be opened in a certain sized window coz it looks exactly the same as the normal pr page :shaz:

Maybe they more mean the bit size than the width?

ok, now you are getting far too technical :hh:

I guess it is just something I will have to grin and bare. But thanks for taking the time to answer

If you take it from the nature:
not the length matters, but the... erm, ...the strike capability...?
Meaning: a subject can for example be very tiny and small, but of a very big power...?

:jackie:

Was my pleasure!
