View Full Version : Bodies Discussion - pre-release chat

Robbie has just added a new video blog in the Inner Sanctum at RW.com. :)

In the video he sings along to a demo of a new song called "Bodies". It's written together with Brandon, who Robbie wrote "The Actor" with (one of my favourites on Rudebox). But the song doesn't sound like "The Actor".

Maybe this is (at least partly) a response to the false songs on You Tube?

You can only hear a part of the song, but I like what I hear a lot. It's clear that Robbie continues to change his style of music. The song is very catchy and I think it could be a hit. I'm really looking forward to hear more of Robbie's new music.

I hate that Robbie still smokes, but I just love how he lits the cigarette and without any effort sings along to the demo - on key.

When he looks into the camera and emphazises "I want perfection" - could that be a little hint to the songs on You Tube? :wink3:
Edit: I now know the clip was recorded before the false songs turned up on You Tube.

Robbie is looking really good in the video, and it's so great to see how he seems to love the rhythm in the song.

What do you think of the new song?

I completely agree, its only for IS members, PLUS its official meaning I don't think its legal to copy it and upload anywhere without permission.

That said ......

Just watched the blog. Great and hot stuff. I really like this song . I think Rob is killing Robbie Williams slowly but surely. His style of music is sort of changing for the last couple of months already. "Rudebox " was just the beginning of a new era in the history of the artist called Robert Williams. To me it´s as if Robbie Williams is fading and Robert Williams from stoke is appearing more and more with every day that passes by. I think it´s great and the best way for Rob to stay sane and healthy. I can´t wait to see and hear more from Rob and his new music. He deffo deserves to find creative and personal fulfillment in his music.

Which is quite logical, in my opinion :laugh2: His reaction it's been very quick to kill all those rumours about the Lost and James Bond' songs

NO thats not what I was trying to say at all :confused2: just that with all this mystery of who this ron bloke was and whether lost was Robbie etc I was just joking that if Robbie wants to leak songs to us he would do it via his website though obviously there would be no mystery surrounding it!!

Makes sense thanks. And he would want us to know it was him so we could get excited about it.
Ron is a #$%@ for what he did imo. I never thought they were Rob but a lot did and it wasnt fair..or to his friend either.

I just listened to the Blog. I like it! Very catchy and a natural progression from the sound of Rudebox. I do think it is probably a response to that horrible Ron nonsense. Here's hoping that the video blogs start to occur more frequently...

No, because this clip was recorded before the last one (which the IS put up in April), he mentioned it in the last one and said the clips may be shown out of order.

I like what I heard (he's amazing with words) but I'll need to hear it properly first.

Interesting little clip. I am not surprised this is the type of material we will hear from Rob next. Takes the safe bits from Rudebox and continues with the new direction Rob. Good stuff and REAL!

Its a long way off the Strong and Come undone era of Rob but its got to be the way forward in how he wants to develop his songwriting.

Was thinking the same thing, he mentioned this song in his blog in April, so it was recorded before, but maybe he placed it on his blog now, because he heared of this Lost-song and wanted to prove that he can sing much better then Ron or whats his name?

Anyway, I love the song Bodies, played it at least 20 times now and its in my head all the time.
Can't wait to hear the hole song.

For me mentioning the You Tube songs - that was a bit for fun as Robbie has said he often visits You Tube.

But about the song "Bodies". I have listened to it several times now and I like it even more than I did yesterday. It's also great to know that Robbie and Brandon are writing more songs together, as he said in the video blog in april.

Please note that all youtube clips of the song Bodies have been removed.

The Inner Sanctum is subscription only, and it is extremely unfair to fee-paying members for their (very rare) exclusive content to be put on the web for everyone to see.

Please do not post these clips on the open forum as they will be removed by staff ;)

irma you never know, you may like it once you hear the whole thing.

Its a natural progression from Rudebox. No real artist keeps doing the same thing for their entire career. Its just good to see him doing the kind of music he's always wanted to do and being excited and happy about it.

With Bodies, we still don't know if it will be included on the next album. This song was written a good while back, he must have loads of songs written since then. I just hope we get to hear the whole thing one day.

I know i'm really sad, but i can't wait for him to fall madly in love and write a beautiful love song coz i just know it will be fab!!! But untill then this sounds ok to me but i will always think his 'sad' - 'love' songs are his most heart felt which is why i fell in love with him in the first place! We have had the dance with Rudebox which i enjoyed but now i want a bit of emotion!!! xxxx

Of course we're not angry with you, you're entitled to your opinion. :)

But you know, if you love somebody - set them free...

Robbie needs to be free to follow his heart, evolve and do the music he loves. And for the time being, that is a bit different from his old songs.

I personally love what I've heard from his new song "Bodies", I think it's great. It has very interesting verses and a beatiful chorus. And I'm curious about that Gregorian chant-like singing you can hear in the beginning of the clip. It's also wonderful to see how he has the songs rhythm in his body.

But I also wish that he would write a love song. Not because I want another Angels or Eternity, but because I wish for him to find real love. And I'm sure a love song from Robbie would be something special.

I don't think we should expect something in the same style as Eternity (Robbie has said he doesn't like the music in that song) or Angels, because he doesn't want to repeat himself. I would be surprised if there aren't some "ballads" on the next album though. I think Robbie will continue to have different music styles on his albums. "Our love" (b-side to Sin sin sin) is a great example of a beautiful slow, very emotional song, but in a different style from his previous ballads.

I'm afraid, but I'm not very enthusiastic about this song. :no3:

It's not that I hate or completely dislike it, but I prefer his old stuff. Feel, Angels, Supreme. :whinge:

I don't like love songs either, and I always liked Rob's songs, because only very few of them were love songs. I like his cynical approach to love in Supreme. I never had love myself, and that's something I can relate to. Love songs just make me depressed. If Rob ever finds love, I hope he doesn't sing too much about it. ;) There's way too many love songs out there anyway. ;)

At least that's something about Bodies I like. It's not a love song. :laugh2: And the lyrics are very interesting. They sound pretty religious to me. Maybe he's preparing to become a monk. :blaf:

Well, after I´ve read 'FEEL' for the first time, I realised how many times he was mentioning God...
He cared a lot about his own soul... how to act and to be a 'good' human being.... sorry, it´s difficult to explain...:confused2:
I think he just had a real spiritual connection when the book was written... he was following his true destination... to touch peoples souls with his music...and in making others happy, he himself was in balance with the higher powers.

I got the feeling he lost this kind of connection... that his motives for being creative have changed...
He has been given an amazing gift but he has to use it the right way or it backfires...
I believe he still tries to be a "Better Man" but I have the feeling he got lost a bit on his way... :(

I don't like the sound, the instruments on it, the twangyness of it is irritating. I think it's a bit folky in a way and I don't like folky music. & he's done the techno thing to death and I'm bored of it. It's too slow with not enough umpth, I don't mind slow songs as in ballads but this isn't what I'd class as a ballad, is just a bit mundane and boring with no umpth, nothing special, I don't like the style of it, I just find it rather irritating to listen to and not want I'd like from Robbie. It's not the sort of musical direction that I'd like him to go in. I just don't like it. Maybe when we get the finished full improved thing I'll like it more, maybe it'll grow on me a bit but I doubt I'll ever think it's great. :no3:

Isn't Feel, Angels and Supreme the ultimate love songs???

"I just wanna feel real love..." "I'm loving angels instead..." "Trying to find a love supreme..."
Feel is about depression, which is almost the opposite of love.
Angels is about feeling protected by higher spirits. It's more a spiritual song.
Supreme is is looking at love in a cynical way "what are you really looking for? Another partner in your life, to abuse and to adore" That's not what you would whisper in somebody's ear at a candlelight dinner. ;)

In this interview he says himself, he hasn't written many love songs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI7aXryUtJ0
I haven't really done a love song. There's probably two that exist. About people. Everything else is about feelings. Fear, insecuity, love, confidence, lack of confidence. And I'm sure that everybody feels the same way that I feel about certain things. And I just hope that they go "yes, I relate to that, I should buy that little album. And thank you very much for understanding me."

Yes he has been given an amazing gift but I didn't know it came with a rule book.

He IS using his gift of extraordinary talent the way that makes him happy and satisfies him and sharing it with others. I don't see how there can be a right or wrong way of going about it. Whatever fulfills him personally is all that matters and is 'right'. Whether others like it or not is not of utmost importance IMO.

I guess Robbie, at least partly, published the video blog with the clip of the new song to get feedback. He knows fan forums will discuss it, and maybe he also counted on it to turn up on You Tube (that I don't know of course). But he checked on You Tube to see people's opinions on Rudebox, and maybe he wants to do it more in advance before anything is decided this time.

I don't know if this was the purpose with the video blog, but if it was - and if he checks on Pure Robbie (which would be natural for him to do as it's by far the biggest fan forum), he should be delighted that the massive majority likes the song. I hope it pleases him to see that his fans are growing with him and are appreciating his evolvement and love for different music styles (including beautiful ballads).

Ok, after listening to the brief snippet we have so far a few times, I really quite like it. :wink3:
Again, it's taking Rob in a different direction.
He's experimenting with his music capability and I've got to say, it's brilliant. :hyper:
I think alot of us are used to Robs older, more 'predictive' songs, (if that's the proper word to use)
The fact that he has the 'balls' to put something new out there is brilliant.
I'm really looking forward to hearing the full single!!!
Although, I have to say, I think this would sound brilliant as a remixed dance tune as well.

I'm sorry to say that I'm actually a bit disappointed..... :sad3:

I had hoped for more "rockier" sounds with more emotion as I gererally don't like techno or electronic music. Then again I do like Rudebox the album, but I still think maybe that "experiment" was enough and I would have preferred another style this time. BUT he makes the kind of music he likes and that's the most important thing!! :)

And I do want to hear the whole song before making my mind up, I also think this will be a definite grower.

So the jury's out on this one.. ;)

Edit: I just listened to the clip again and woah - that's really religious isn't it?? :eek3: Well, nothing wrong with that, I suppose...........................

He hasn't done a good old pop song that I've liked in ages. :reyes: Years. :reyes: In fact I can't even remember what the last song that I liked was. :laugh2: I only liked Lovelight from Rudebox (liked - but didn't like a lot :reyes: ) and that was a bit..... :confused2: what's the word..... it was sort of electro-y. I just haven't liked the vibe from his stuff in a while. :no3: I liked Intensive Care but I'm just gutted he's gone down the route he has. :reyes: If the next album is the same sort of stuff as Rudebox and like this Bodies song then I don't know what I'm going to do. :mad3: I was hoping to God that it wouldn't be like that. I reeeeaaally wish Lost was actually his. :blaf: I actually loved that. :blaf: What a damn shame. :blaf: I suppose I could try and get that Col guy to do me a CD of his work and I could play that for a year or two until the next Robbie Williams album come out. Hopefully one day he'll return to doing some music that I actually like and don't think is pants. :reyes:

:eek3: Yikes thinking about it.... if the press get wind that the next album is similar to Rudebox and report on it, then that'll put a dent in the album sales.

Maybe its just me but I don't think and never thought that Rudebox was an 'experiment'. He just finally did the kind of music that he himself liked and listened to, so Bodies would be an extension of that.
:18b: :18b: :18b: :18b: :18b: :18b: so i will have to look for another favourite singer.......noooooooo

no don t worry i m kidding.... actually if the electro/dance is his new style i won t but his records..... but the single isn t released yet and who knows maybe i ll like it
& if you don't like it then maybe you could try getting your hands on that other guys music too. :wink3: With a bit of vocal training that guy could go far. I reckon he's got a market of old tired Robbie fans just out there waiting for something Robbie-ish that we'd like, all he needs to do is improve his tuning and release an album and it'll sell in droves. :laugh2:

Like the song "Bodies": 80,5 %

Don't like the song "Bodies: 3,5 %

Those figures speak for themselves and must be very encouraging for Rob!
I hope he's happy about that. :)

If a singer who sings off key, writes embarrassing, more self-pitying lyrics than Robbie ever could be accused of, and needs to copy another artist instead of doing something genuine, is seemed as a good alternative, then it's really great for that guy. Good luck to him and his new fans! And there's always a bunch of other singers who releases what they calculate that people would like to hear. So no harm for anyone really.

Robbie has really been given an amazing gift, and I agree with those who thinks his motives for being creative have changed. I think he follows his heart more now than before, and that's what creative artists should do. Otherwise it's all about speculation.

Robbie has been lost a bit on his way for sure, but these days he seems to be on the right path more than ever.

who in the world said that the next album will be like Rudebox ?!

I think Rob himself said the next album will be nothing like Rudebox or any of his old stuff for that matter so it remains to be seen what the next album will be like.

Bodies is just a track he wrote a long while back. No one knows if it will actually be on the next album or be a single or if we're even going to ever hear the full track. I hope we will as I personally love it but we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions.

Its not the end of the world if you don't like a song(s) or album. I don't think its healthy to be taking it all so seriously and if you do you should examine what's behind that. At the end of the day its only a song or collection of songs. If you don't like the new material then listen to the old ones that you did like. An artist can't progress and grow if they stick to one type of thing. Thank goodness Rob has the balls and desire to change and keep evolving :)

I actually don’t know how to do multiple quotes, but anyway
@Livy Livy @Sue_p I agree with you both. You are not obliged to be Robbie’s fans and if you don’t like him anymore you can surely change your favourite artist. Why not? It’s not a scandal : people divorce from husband or wife. There are lots of artists around you can surely find another artist who responds more to your feelings. For one fan going there will be new fans coming. But I don’t think it’s right to judge Robbie or his future job or stuff with only a few minute of a song we even don’t know 1) when it has been wrote 2) if it will be ever realised as a single or be a track of a CD
About Lost I like enough the song but I thought it was not Robbie because of his voice. I didn’t like the voice at all :no3: and reading the lyrics I think they are not at all original they’re too much inspirited by Robbie’s (real) songs. I don’t like artists who copy.:no3:

Dispite saying earlier that I'm disappointed with the new song, I totally agree with you. And especially with the last two sentences! Good on you, Rob!!

And I wouldn't be surprised if Bodies wasn't even gonna be on his new album. I'm waiting very eagerly for the album to be released, I wouldn't want my "artist of preference" to be predictable, and that's certainly one thing Rob's not!! And I'm sure there will be different styles on his forthcoming album as there always has been.

And like I said in my earlier post, I really want to hear the whole song (Bodies) before I know what to think, and I'm pretty sure I will like it :) And if I won't, then I won't, big deal :)

Well I hope you’re right. I hope the next album isn’t anything like Rudebox and is to a style I like but my hopes are fading. I just have a feeling that the sort of music that he likes isn’t the sort I’ll appreciate. :reyes:

I doubt it was his life’s ambition to copy Rob, I just think he naturally has a voice that sounds like his. & other people can write songs with meaning, it doesn’t mean they’re copying someone else.

I actually don’t know how to do multiple quotes
Here’s my quoting instructions: -
I’ve had several jealous people look at my amazing quoting skills in awe and ask how to do it, so here is my guide to multiple quoting..... :wink3:

Find a post that you want to quote. Go to quote, (bottom right). You may not want the entire post to be quoted so if you only want a bit of it, delete the text that you don’t want (but do not touch the text which says either [/ quote] or [ quote=a members name]). Write what you wish to say underneath.

Now if you want another person’s post to be quoted, right hand click over the text still showing on your screen, go to Select All, all the text should now be highlighted in blue, right hand click over the blue text, go to Copy. All this is now ‘copied to clipboard’.

Click the Back button on Internet Explorer to return to viewing the thread again. Go to another post which you want to quote. Go to quote, (bottom right). Put your cursor at the very top of the post and enter down a few lines. Place the cursor back up to the top of the post again. Right hand click. Go to Paste. This should now ‘paste from clipboard’ all the previous text that you created earlier. Now you're free to edit the post according to how you want it.

If you want to do more quotes, repeat the steps again. When you're satisfied that you've quoted enough people, click submit. (You might want to preview what you've done first so that you don't mess up and look a tit). :D

I hope all that is followable. :wink3:

:thx: Thank for your instructions. I’ll try next time I need to do multiple quotes.

What I try to say about LOST is that reading the text I find in it manifest “references” to Robbie’s songs as Angels or Feel

LOST

Lost again
I'm with friends but I'm still lost again
I can't seem to shake this pout in pain
I need some help before I go insane
If there’s an angel watching over me
Try to save me from my enemies
Comfort me and take my soul
Guide me through this darkest hole
Let me know that I'm worth more
Lost within
And I can't sleep cause I'm so blind with tears
Don't wanna hear so I just close my ears
Because if only for so many years
That's what I hear:

Lost again
I'm with friends,
but I'm still lost again
I can't seem to shake this doubt and pain
I need some help before I go insane
If there's an angel watching over me
Trying to save me from my enemies
Comfort me and take my soul
guide me through this darkest hole
let me know that I'm worth more
Lost with fear
and I can't see
'cause I'm so blind with tears
Don't wanna hear, so I just close my ears
Because I've heard it for so many years

If it were really from Robbie I would have thought he had copy himself :confused2:

I see what you’re saying Monica about Lost’s lyrics being slightly on the same path as Angels and Feel but when you’re feeling lost and down it’s natural to want to feel loved and crave someone to look after you and protect you and make things right again. I’m sure there’s lots of songs out there that have been written with the same message.

The lyrics aren't just religious in the christian way (with God and Jesus), but also contain Buddhist (Bodhi tree (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhi_tree)) and new age (ley lines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ley_line)) elements.

These are not the first puzzling and mysterious lyrics from Rob. And it's always a challenge to translate that. For instance: Why did he sing "Bodies on my family" - not "in" or "of"? Or is it "all my family"? When I was translating that I also thought he might play with the word "bodies", which may have several meanings or even be written differently. If he sang "but is" in this tune, it might still sound like "bodies". That's why I put down "buddies making chemistry" and translated it into something like "pals, who have good chemistry between them". Made more sense with "buddies" than with "bodies".

I also found it interesting, that he called a song with lots of spiritual references "bodies", which is a physical thing. Seems he likes to play with antagonisms and contradictions.

is there a full version of Bodies?

No, there is only the clip from Robbie's blog.

Robbie has said that it's not sure that he will release the song. Maybe it will be a b-side some day, but nothing is decided yet about that.
We will have to wait and see when the next original album is released in 2008 (probably).
