La popstar a fait vibrer 56 000 spectateurs mardi au stade Roi Baudouin. Remplissant ses rôles de machine à tubes, craquant séducteur et amuseur public.

Le truc qu'on a oublié... c'est une bouteille d'eau», lance, inquiète, en s'extirpant du métro, une fan de Robbie Williams au moins équipée de sa crème solaire. Il est 19h30, mardi, et l'atmosphère commence enfin à tiédir dans le stade Roi Baudouin, qui affiche un petit air de plage et de festival estival. Les tribunes se remplissent. Malgré la fougue de ses chanteuses et sa musique dansante, le combo métissé Basement Jaxx, succédant aux Américains d'Orson, peine à faire bouger le public du terrain. Grillés, ramollis, ralentis, les spectateurs entrés dès 17h gardent leur dernier souffle pour Robbie. La superpopstar britannique brasse toutes les générations, encore que ses jeunes fans soient sous-représentés, examens obligent - et prix du ticket! C'est autant, voire davantage, l'entertainer, le séducteur sexy, le provocateur et ses shows légendaires qui ont rameuté la foule que ses mélodies entêtantes.

Début «hot»... sauf la voix

A 20h45, tandis que les écrans géants diffusent un extrait de Queen en concert, une immense ola parcourt les tribunes. A 21h, quinze minutes avant l'heure officielle, un feu d'artifice éclate. Sur les cinq notes de «Rencontres du 3 éme type», des fusées, jets de fumée et boules de feu s'échappent de l'impressionnant dispositif scénique qui entoure la scène. Elle est dominée par deux énormes arcs - pas juste là pour décorer, on le pressent - et prolongée par une plate-forme circulaire au milieu du public. C'est là, près de ses groupies, que la star de 32 ans apparaît, manteau noir liseré de rouge et foulard assorti, jeans et baskets. Classe et cool à la fois. Lointain et accessible. Carapace de star conquérante laissant entrevoir l'homme fragile.

Démarrage rythmé et puissant, avec «Radio» et «Rock DJ». Les images défilent, faisant remonter la température de quelques degrés: Robbie vêtu de ses seuls tatouages, convoité par des mains féminines baladeuses, danses suggestives de mannequins en petite tenue. Robbie, dûment entouré de cinq choristes et autant de musiciens, fait monter la pression mais, singulièrement, sa voix manque de justesse et de puissance. «Tripping», le tube très dansant de son dernier album, est un peu poussif. Mais le public, tout à son bonheur d'être là, chante déjà à tue- tête et brasse l'air en rythme.

Micro dans une main et bouteille d'eau dans l'autre, la star plaisante autour du foot, sa deuxième passion, et titille le public belge: «Au fait, c'est quand votre prochain match en Coupe du m... Oups!» Avant d'entonner «Monsoon», en portant, en guise de cravate, le soutien-gorge d'une généreuse spectatrice. Ça tombe bien, il poursuivra avec «Sin sin sin». Plus tard, il félicitera une autre fan écartant les triangles de son bikini pour lui dévoiler - et au stade entier par caméra interposée - ses seins. Rayon strip-tease, ajoutons qu'à la fin du concert Robbie montrera, comme attendu mais fugitivement, ses fesses à l'assemblée.

A Frank et Freddy

Le chanteur puise dans tous ses albums, de 1997 à 2005, se payant en outre un petit morceau-souvenir de ses années boys band, avec le «Back for good» du groupe Take That où il officia dès ses seize ans. Mais c'est peut- être dans la reprise de «Me and my shadow», précédemment chanté par Frank Sinatra - l'une de ses idoles -, qu'il retrouve, en duo avec son ami Jonathan Wilkes, toutes les nuances de sa voix. Le rôle de «crooner» des années 50 ou 60 lui va comme un gant - n'est-ce d'ailleurs pas quand il endosse, à fond, un rôle qu'on le préfère? Entre deux morceaux, il rend aussi hommage à Freddy Mercury. Ou donne les résultats du match en cours Brésil-Croatie: 1-0. Beau moment aussi avec une version vitaminée et swing de «A place to crash» où les choeurs s'éclatent.

Robbie laisse, bien sûr, une place aux slows et autres ballades qui, armées précisément de choeurs sensibles, se muent en hymnes collectifs. Les images narcissiques du chanteur brisent un peu la magie d'«Advertising space», mais «Feel», en fin de concert fait tout son effet, et, en rappel, le vibrant «Angels», fumigènes à l'appui, fera verser quelques larmes.

Rendez-vous à l'hôtel

En fait d'ange, Robbie est alors vêtu d'un training blanc - joli coup de pub pour la marque dont il arbore le symbole, soit dit en passant - et a réapparu, et oui, au sommet de l'un des vertigineux arcs, avant de descendre dans une nacelle jusqu'à la scène, pour un dantesque «Let me entertain you». Soulagé que le dispositif ait fonctionné, explique-t-il au passage:

«A Dublin, je suis resté coincé en l'air. J'avais peur. Et le public me regardait, l'air de dire: OK, on t'a vu, tu peux descendre maintenant...» Robbie se dit très heureux, là. «Même l'hôtel est super. Vous viendrez boire un verre au bar avec moi? Je suis au Conrad.» Aïe, et dire que tout est fait pour éviter les rassemblements de fans en furie...

Sous un tonnerre d'applaudissements et devant un stade debout, «Kids» aux tonalités rap, où Robbie se frotte à ses choristes non moins sexy, clôt un concert musicalement sans grande surprise - pas de nouvelle reprise, ni de version très différente d'une chanson originale.

Hormis un démarrage un peu mou, Robbie Williams a, cependant, été là où il était attendu: chanteur, charmeur, showman, clown, grande gueule, culotté. Hier soir, il devait remonter sur la même scène. Une certitude: la canicule, elle, n'était plus au rendez-vous.

Rode Kruis verzorgt 85 mensen op concert Robbie Williams

Ongeveer 56.000 mensen hebben woensdagavond in het Brusselse Koning Boudewijnstadion het tweede concert van Robbie Williams bijgewoond.

Dinsdag waren dat er 54.000. zo meldt de politie van de zone Brussel-Elsene. Zo'n 16.500 concertgangers reisden per metro van en naar het stadion. Parking C bij het stadion stond voor 90 percent vol. Het verkeer in de omgeving liep relatief weinig hinder op, aldus de politie.

Het Rode Kruis moest zich over 85 personen ontfermen, meestal mensen die waren flauwgevallen. Twee personen werden administratief aangehouden wegens openbare dronkenschap.

All aboard the Robbie train!

Tues 13/06/06 - Extra metro trains have been laid on to get fans to the sell-out Robbie Williams concerts. The British pop star will be performing in front of thousands at the King Boudewijn Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday night. A complete parking ban has been imposed on the surrounding area while the cheeky lad struts his stuff before the packed stadium.

To avoid heavy traffic congestion after the show, both the Brussels police and the capital's public transport company are advising fans to use the metro, tram or bus.

The VRT popular music station, Donna, is to join in the fun.

Robbie Williams fans can pop into the mobile radio studio, for a look around before the concert, and Radio Donna will be there to entertain and accompany those returning home after the big show.

Double date for Robbie
Originally, there was only one concert planned for Brussels but tickets for a date with Robbie Williams completely sold out on the first day of going on sale.

60,000 tickets, for the 13 June concert in the King Boudewijn Stadium, got snapped up on the first official day of sale.

The box office opened at 9am on a cold November morning, and by early afternoon there was nothing left but disappointed fans.

Due to popular demand, the British bad boy of pop added another Brussels date to his World Tour.

Fans who had inscribed on Robbie's official website were able to reserve a couple of thousand places in advance.

Tickets immediately began being flogged on various on-line auction houses, often at extremely inflated prices, despite recent ministerial announcements of the government's intention to clamp down on black market trading.

Organisers responded to the heavy demand for tickets, quickly offering a second date for Brussels. This also sold out quickly.

The Belgian dates are the first stop off in mainland Europe for the 2006 Robbie Williams tour.

After Brussels, the bad boy of British pop is off to Paris and then Amsterdam, where his four concerts in the Arena are also completely sold out.

My hubby came back to the stadium around 9.30 pm to watch the football match at the Holiday Inn across the road from the stadium (2 for the price of a couple of cold Belgian beers http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/nahrung/a080.gif) He also said the sound was awful and that Robbie sounded out of tune http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/a070.gif

I had seats the first day. First block on the right of the stage. Robbie wasn't out of tune at all. From time to time the sound was a little too loud and it'd "crack" in the speakers but it didn't happen very often. Basement Jaxx sound was perfect... Orson was... erh interesting. Yeah I don't like them.

The next day I was standing and the sound was perfect.

I've just finished reading those comments and some were harsh! It's possible that the sound was bad in certain area of the stadium but it is a stadium after all. It wasn't built to have concerts. The press had the same complaints when U2 came. So it's definitely not a problem with Robbie's technical team.

Robbie Williams becomes LT United honory member

According to the managament of the Lituanian Eurovision Song Contest participants LT United, Robbie Williams performed the chorus of their entry ''We are the winners'' during his shows in the King Boudewijn stadium in Brussels, earlier this week. It was one of the jokes Robbie made to entertain the Belgian crowd.
The LT United members were absolutely thrilled and astonished to hear about Robbie Williams singing the chorus of their song. "This is the first time that a song of Lithuanian artist is covered by a world-famous pop artist. It's definitely an honour for us - whether he was joking or not. This shows that we did the right thing and our idea worked. The Lithuanian entry was noticed well in this year's Eurovision," Andrius Mamontovas, one of the LT United members said.

"I'm laughing my ass off and feel thrilled - all at the same time. Robbie singing our song... Now this is a really pleasant thing to hear", Victor Diawara admitted. In further comments, Andrius jokingly stated that LT United now feel obliged to return the compliment: "We'll definitely cover one of his songs in our live performances.
