Robbie tickets missing

Organisers scramble after Royal Mail loses 400 orders
April 6, 2006

By Sally Scott

AS many as 1 600 tickets for the three Robbie Williams concerts in South Africa have been lost by Britain's Royal Mail.

The tickets, bought by South African fans from William's Inner Sanctum "priority access" website, went missing and the South African organisers, Big Concerts, were yesterday scrambling to ensure fans whose tickets disappeared would still get to see the superstar in concert.

Although not involved with the ticket sales, Big Concerts marketing manager Michael Anetakis said he had been in e-mail contact with the London office of Inner Sanctum and had been advised a Royal Mail bag containing "400 orders" had gone missing.

Fans were allowed to order a maximum of four tickets per order through the website. While it is not clear how many tickets went missing, the Daily News was told most people ordering tickets through Inner Sanctum had taken the maximum number.

The 400 orders were for tickets for all three concerts. It is not clear how many fans attending the concert on Monday in Durban have been affected by the lost Royal Mail bag.

Anetakis said the matter was being investigated as a "matter of urgency". Organisers also planned to contact those fans who had bought the missing tickets and they would be given a special code to use to gain entry to the concert on Monday.

The fans who signed up to become members of the exclusive Inner Sanctum website were charged £25 (R265). They were told that the fee would give them priority purchasing powers, including the opportunity to buy tickets for concerts before the tickets even went on sale to the general public.

The joining fee included an exclusive T-shirt for each person buying from the site. Johannesburg couple Wendy and Richard Adams decided this was the route they would take and duly paid their fee to join the club and then paid for two Golden Circle tickets.

"The T-shirt, only one, eventually came and we had to pay customs duty," explained Wendy, "but that was all that came."

"My husband kept saying, don't worry the tickets will arrive and we even rang London a few times, which is expensive of course, to check on the progress, but to no avail.

"At one point we were told by a woman at the London number that the tickets had been sent but had gone missing. Then a friend in Durban, who is also waiting for tickets told us she had heard at her hairdresser that the batch of tickets had been stolen in the mail.

"We don't know what to believe now, but I can tell you this, we are going to that concert if we have to cause a riot at the gate!"

The site states: "Subscribers are provided with a wealth of exclusive content and offers not available to non-subscribers."

Advanced priority access to tour tickets in advance of the general public is also offered.

Asked to intervene on behalf of those still empty-handed fans, Anetakis said although purchase of tickets from the site was nothing to do with his company, he would not be happy if any paid-up fan did not get to see the concert.

When the Daily News called the London office of Inner Sanctum, a woman named Sam answered. She declined to give her surname and said she was unable speak to the press, but that there were discussions going on in a bid to resolve the problem.

There was no one available to comment, but "you will get an
e-mail from us", she said.

The concert on Monday has almost been sold out with 40 000 fans expected to attend the show.

GET A JUMP ON ROBBIE TICKETS

WHILE Robbie Williams fans must wait until the end of the month to hear where the planned Wembley gigs for his tour in September will be moved to, they'll be pleased to know that more tickets will eventually be available for sale.

But if waiting seems a little risky - 360,000 tickets sold out in two hours last year - shopping channel ibuy on Sky 632 is running a fab competition which could see you and a mate being flown to Dubai in VIP style for the Robbie gig there.

Meanwhile, for those who already have tickets, dance act Basement Jaxx and the Ordinary Boys have been confirmed as the support acts for the European leg. The world tour kicks off today in Durban, South Africa.

Robbie Williams ticket hopes dashed

He may be one of the biggest-selling artists in the world, but when it comes to Robbie Williams' live performances, apparently no one gets a freebie.

Popular radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo found this out when it tried to give away free tickets to the sold-out concert at Loftus on Monday.

Tickets for the concert, with an average price of around R500 apiece, were sold out within hours of going on sale at the end of last year.

Highveld bought 100 tickets for the concert with the intention of giving them away as prizes on shows in the lead-up to the concert. But before the station could go ahead with its plan, Williams' management stopped the give-away.

Station manager Ravi Naidoo said this week: "This is the first time such strict regulation has been placed by any artist's management. 94.7's listeners expect when an artist is touring this region, we... would be doing ticket giveaways."

He said the station then worked closely with the record company to give away Robbie Williams hampers to listeners. Naidoo said Big Concerts, the local promoter of the concert, had been "very accommodating with our requests".

However, Michael Anetakis, of Big Concerts, said the restriction came from the singer's marketing company.

"(Williams' management) noticed that around the world? companies were sort of hijacking the event. They decided that no one but the official sponsors should be able to promote the event. In this case, 5FM is an official sponsor and not Highveld," explained Anetakis.

so does that mean there are going to be GC tickets available for milton Keynes then? coz the only other type of ticket is the general admission ticket.

Hi there girls....what a complete mess this all is. I agree with everything everyone has said.
After the info we had last night, I had a mate visiting who had not previously joined the IS. I TWISTED her arm to get her to join last night which she did (lovely t shirt etc).

She went on to the ticket sales site this morning. Even though she had joined, she still only knew the info about the tickets going on sale from me, there was nothing on IS. It seems that the only people who have had the email are mebers of the IS who have not already purchased using their allowance like Mon said.

Anyway ....warning about to piss everyone off ......she got onto the site no problems and had the option to buy tickets from any of the MK shows for General Admission or Inner Circle. GA same price as ours, Inner Circle a little bit more. So she happily purchased her allowance of 4 inner circle tickets.

So even though it is VERY WRONG and we should not have to be going through this, it seems that the solution is now to get someone else to join IS and purchase away because I do not believe that there are many others out there who even know these tickets are available.

The upside of this, when they go on General Sale, which is now tomorrow I believe, there will be Inner Circle if you are very quick.

It is bittersweet. I am pissed of about the process, but now have an Inner Circle ticket from my mate.

Ok, to put everything in perspective can we have a list of the 'wrongs' the official site has done to IS subscribers regarding MK/Wembley

I'm a little confused and feeling quite sick tbh because what i have in my head is

IS Subscribers were promised advanced ticket sales for all shows, ie, best chance for best seats before the public ticket sales...

then the IS subscribers bought their tickets only to discover they now meant nothing but gen admission due to the venue change - no part refunds to make up the difference

Today we discover the IS are selling more tickets for the GC bit IS subscribers cannot buy these as they've already bought the ones that were changed to gen ad = IS subscribers get the worst deal out of everyone - but hey - its ok cos Rob blogs every blue moon?

TheMissus
05-17-2006, 10:05 AM
I have emailed them about 2 things -

1 - I haven't had an email about the resale or Australia. I should point out that I subscibed twice with different email addresses, and I usually get all the IS emails twice because of this. But I haven't received an email to either address this time. (I didn't tell them I subscibed twice though ;) )

2 - that I think it very unfair to sell inner circle tickets on the resale without offering the original IS subscribers the chance to upgrade their ticket.

I will let you know if they bother to reply.

Yep you hit the nail on the head...ITS PANTS!!!!

I know its not Robbies fault...and i dont think we can blame him...he is busy touring..so its not him how has done this...its the people who work at his site...Hes probably just as annoyed that his fans are getting to feel this way.
I could quiet truefully cry right now..i so wanted to get up close

It might not be his fault, but as he is so fond of saying its HIS name on the ticket. And if he is annoyed about it, he should damn well come out and say so. He is not touring at the moment, he is training for the footie, and he can't be doing that all day and all night.

I really don't think there is any excuse for him not blogging and reassuring us that he does care, unless, of course, he doesn't

Feel better for saying that out loud, so to speak. Sorry folks - I am a nice person really :o
Its just that this is my first (and looks like the last) Robbie concert. And it's all gone pear shaped at the moment http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/traurig/a065.gif

WILLIAMS 'RELAXES' ON TOUR

ROBBIE WILLIAMS plans to take it easy when he kicks off the European leg of his world tour next month (MAY06), because he's too old to be energetic onstage. The 32-year-old has a series of massive stadium gigs lined up for the tour, which started in South Africa in April (06) and ends in Australia in December (06). But he won't be leaping around the stage. Williams says, "Some of the other shows I've done I've been running the 1,500 metres, and the 400 metres and the 100 metres all at the same time. With this show I just want to relax." The singer set a world record when tickets for the tour first went on sale last year (05), selling 1.6 million in one day.

Hi,

Here's a message from Robbie Williams' management...

We would like to assure fans that we at RobbieWilliams.com are as disappointed as you are about the change of venue which is of course beyond our control.

We have tried to make the transition from Wembley to Milton Keynes as painless as possible for everyone concerned, given that we have had to move from a stadium to a greenfield site at such short notice.

Every effort has been made to accommodate Robbie’s fans. We can only apologise for this situation and hope that despite it all you enjoy the shows.

Many thanks for your continued patience however refunds are available on tickets purchased via the Inner Sanctum if the new arrangements make the change of venue impossible for you.

Best Wishes

TheMissus

I dont think they sold the maximum capacity for wembley. Tom G said on his site that they had to cater for 300,000 fans, which works out at 60,000 for each of the 5 nights. MK capacity is 65,000. plus you will have all the returns, and I think there have been quite alot of them.

I could quite easily buy IC tickets now without having to resubscribe. But I honestly doubt I would be able to get rid of my original general admission ones. And unfortunately I can't go to more than one MK concert coz I have kids to consider, not to mention an unsypathetic husband.

Had I known these IC tickets were going to be made available, I would have seriously considered cancelling and obtaining a refund. But I guess the IS thought of this, which was why we only had a couple of weeks to cancel

I can totally appriciate where you are coming from with this.

The day the tickets first went on sale was manic, thousands of die hard fans fighting to buy the best seats.

Me and Sarah couldnt get good seats but we were happy where we were.. afterall we'd given it a damn good go and it was fair - first come/first served..

Then we discover there's better, great tickets still avaliabale due to this farce and it is sickening - we can't go buy 3 more tickets, because we know we'd have one hell of a job selling our old ones..

V unfair.

I was just so glad to get tickets in the first place. I felt quite pleased with myself that i'ld actually made it through that stressfull day in November on the internet and must admit did feel kind of special because I got them through the inner sanctum, like being part of the elite
I wonder if Robbie really knows how upset some of his fans are with the way things have been handled.

TheMissus
05-20-2006, 07:42 AM
yeah- its the getting rid of the old ones that stops me from getting IC tickets, which are still available for Thursday. But I looked on ebay yesterday and there was an almighty slump, lots of tickets not reaching their reserve, etc.

If the resale tickets all sell out it would be different, but to be honest I cant see that happening. I don't think the management appreciate quite how many people wanted seats and that was the reason they were going to Wembley. Rob has a lot of older fans. two of the tickets I had to sell were originally for a friends Mum and her sister, and whilst they were quite happy to sit in the sky (they were top tier) they were not prepared to stand in a field. It is a huge difference.

thats why I hope the rumour about Cardiff is true. But the worry is, if it really was on the cards, would he bother if Milton Keynes fails to sell-out??

TheMissus

I can't see him cancelling Milton Keynes- that would be the nail in the coffin for alot of subscribers (the majority of IS subscribers wanted wembley)

He wouldn't let down thousands of fans through low ticket sales..would he?

no, I dont think they would dare relocate again - there'd be a ruddy war

the tickets are going slowly - no IC tickets for thursday anymore, so I think they probably will sell out eventually. Just not a record-breaker this time ;)

I do still feel sorry for the people who wanted a seat though. I am sure Leeds was standing only, which only leaves Glasgow for anyone that didn't want to be crushed in a crowd, and of course that sold out long ago. This is why I am still holding on to my dream that he will announce another venue - one with seats.

tasha

I have just read through the whole of this thread and i felt compelled to reply i have never posted before.....i really feel for all you guys who are not happy with your tickets. I am going to see Rob in Leeds in September and got my tickets through the IS. I have previously seen him at Milton Keynes and at Knebworth and didn't get anywhere near as close as I would have liked so I plan to camp out at Leeds the night before and get to the front and stay there!! Would have loved to get IC tickets though. Maybe they should let all the IS subscribers into the Inner Circle if they are wearing their limited edition "members only" t-shirts??? Which, i may add i have seen a couple of for sale on eBay, so that wouldn't be fair either.

http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/froehlich/c025.gif Shamish I am going to the gig in Vienna in Austria next week and we only received the tickets this week :( The same applied for the concerts I went to in Brussels and Amsterdam http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/c028.gif So need to panic just yet, but I do suggest that you send them an email as a 'gentle' reminder http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/frech/d025.gif

Thanks i've sent several and phoned several times getting fed up of the wait :(

The last time we booked through ticketmaster though was disabled tickets and got very quick this time it's taking forever :(

There probably cutting it short to stop touts.

I just hope they get here in time as we moved house recently and it took forever for them to change our adderess so hopfully fingers crossed they'll be here somtime this week :)

They have been saying would send 4 weeks before it's now 3 weeks until the gig :(

I've been asking around and it does seem to be 12-7 days pre-concert that the tickets are being recieved.

Hopefully this will be the case with you too.

Good luck :)
